Lake Cerknica

Lake Cerknica is an intermittent lake in the southern part of the Cerknica Polje, a karst polje in Inner Carniola, a region in southwestern Slovenia. The lake, oriented in the Dinaric direction from northwest to southeast, is present for the most part of the year. When full, it is the largest lake in the country. The plain is surrounded by the Javornik Hills to the south and Slivnica to the north, both belonging to Dinaric Alps.

Inner Carniola

Inner Carniola was a kreis of the historical Habsburg crown land of Carniola from 1849 till 1919 and is nowadays a traditional region of Slovenia. Its administrative and economic center of the region is Postojna, while other minor centers include Logatec, Cerknica, Pivka and Ilirska Bistrica.

Lož Castle

Lož Castle, also known as Pusti Grad ("Waste Castle"), is a castle ruin above the settlement of Lož in central Slovenia's Lož Valley. The castle and its lordship are mentioned in period documents under various names, including Los, Louse, Lose, and Lösch.

Rakov Škocjan

Rakov Škocjan is a valley and Regional Park nature reserve, in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. It is located near the settlement of Rakov Škocjan, Cerknica. Rakov Škocjan has been protected since 1949 and is the oldest landscape park in Slovenia. There are two natural bridges in Rakov Škocjan, the Little Natural Bridge and about 2.5 kilometres downstream, to the west, the Great Natural Bridge.

Rak (creek)

Rak is a creek in Inner Carniola, a traditional region of southeastern Slovenia. It sources in Zelše Caves (Zelške jame) to the west of the village of Zelše, flows across the Rakov Škocjan karst valley for 2 kilometres and enters Tkalca Cave, where it continues for 3 kilometres and merges in Planina Cave (Planinska jama), above 300 metres from its entrance, with the Pivka River to form the Unica. The confluence of the Rak and the Pivka is one of the largest subterranean confluences in Europe.
