Obalno-kraška Statistical Region

The Coastal-Karst Statistical Region (Slovene: Obalno-kraška statistična regija) is a statistical region in the south-west of Slovenia. The region compromises 7 municipalities: Divača, Hrpelje-Kozina, Izola, Komen, Koper, Piran and Sežana. It has an area of 1,044 km² and an estimated 106,000 inhabitants (at 1 January 2006) - of whom almost half live in the coastal city of Koper - and the second highest GDP per capita of the Slovenian regions.

Brkini Hills

The Brkini Hills is a hilly region in southwestern Slovenia. They border on the north on the Reka River, on the southwest on the Materija Valley (Matarsko podolje), on the northwest on the Karst Plateau (Kras), and on the southeast on the Jelšane Valley (Jelšansko podolje). The Brkini region is divided among the municipalities of Hrpelje–Kozina, Pivka, Ilirska Bistrica, and Divača. The region is 25 kilometres long and 7 km wide, and covers an area of 180 square kilometres .

Slavnik

Slavník (died 981) was a Bohemian nobleman, the founder of Slavník's dynasty. He is said to have had consanguinity with the Saxon kings. He had several children by his wife Střezislava. Six of his sons are known by name: Soběslav (his heir), Saint Adalbert (Vojtěch), Spytimír, Pobraslav, Pořej and Čáslav. He had also a son named Radim (Gaudentius) by another woman (probably a concubine). According to Cosmas' chronicle, Slavník was a happy man all his lifetime.

Slovenian Istria

Slovenian Istria is a region in southwest of Slovenia. It comprises the northern part of the Istrian peninsula, and it is part of the wider geographical-historical region known as the Slovenian Littoral (Primorska). Its largest urban center is Koper. Other larger settlements are Izola, Piran and Portorož. The whole region has around 120 settlements. In its coastal area, both the Slovene and Italian language are official.

Vilenica Cave

Vilenica Cave or Vilenica Cave at Lokev (Slovene: Jama Vilenica pri Lokvi) is the oldest show cave in Europe. The first tourists to the cave were recorded in 1633. It is located next to the village of Lokev in the municipality of Sežana on the Karst Plateau in southwestern Slovenia. Until the mid-19th century it was known as the biggest, most beautiful, and most frequently visited cave of the Classical Karst. Later it was surpassed by Postojna Cave.
