Port of Ngqura

The Port of Ngqura is a deepwater port on the east coast (Indian Ocean) of South Africa, 20 km northeast of Port Elizabeth. It was authorised by an act of parliament in 2002, construction started in September 2002 and the port became operational in October 2009 when the MSC Catania became the first commercial ship to dock at the port.

James Percy FitzPatrick

Coega

The Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) covering 110 km² of land, is situated within the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality near Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The initiative is a multibillion-dollar industrial development complex customized for heavy, medium and light industries, adjacent to a deepwater port, Port of Ngqura.

Algoa Bay

Algoa Bay is a wide inlet along the South African east coast, 425 miles (683 kilometres) east of the Cape of Good Hope. It is bounded in the west by Cape Recife and in the east by Cape Padrone. The bay is up to 436 m deep. The harbour city of Port Elizabeth is situated adjacent to the bay, as is the new Coega deep water port facility.

St. Croix Island, Algoa Bay

The St. Croix group[edit] St. Croix Island at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:33|47|58|S|25|46|11|E|type:isle | |name=St Croix }} is 3.9 km from the nearest land and rises to 59 m . The BirdLife fact sheet states the 12 ha island is only 58 m above sea level. It adds that the island is rocky and “supports minimal vegetation”. The island runs 700 m along a northwest, southeast axis and is about 360 m wide at its broadest – along the west coast.
