Battle of Triangle Hill

The Battle of Triangle Hill, also known as Operation Showdown or the Shangganling Campaign, was a protracted military engagement during the Korean War. The main combatants were two United Nations infantry divisions, with additional support from the United States Air Force, against elements of the 15th and 12th Corps of the People's Republic of China. The battle was part of American attempts to gain control of "The Iron Triangle", and took place from October 14 – November 25, 1952.

Sanggamnyong

Sanggamnyŏng, also known as Shangganling in Chinese, Triangle Hill in South Korea, and Jane & Russell Hill in United States is a mountain pass in central North Korea. The mountain pass is part of the Triangle Hill Complex that is roughly 4 km north by northeast of Kimhwa. Situated in the valley between the Jane Russell Hill and the Sniper Ridge, the hamlet became famous in China due to the Battle of Shangganling, a large-scale battle in the Korean War.

Gwangdeoksan (Gangwon/Gyeonggi)

Gwangdeoksan is a mountain on the boundary between the provinces of Gangwon-do and Gyeonggi-do in South Korea. Its area extends across the city of Pocheon and the counties of Hwacheon and Cheorwon. Gwangdeoksan has an elevation of 1,046 m .

Outpost Harry

Outpost Harry was a remote Korean War station located on a tiny hilltop in what was commonly referred to as the "Iron Triangle" on the Korean Peninsula. This was an area approximately 60 miles (100 km) north of Seoul and was the most direct route to the South Korean capital. More than 88,000 rounds of Chinese artillery fell on Outpost Harry. Since the outpost was defended each night by only a single company of American or Greek soldiers, the Chinese had anticipated an easy capture.
