Jindo County

Jindo County (Jindo-gun) is a county in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. It consists of the island of Jindo and several smaller nearby islands. Jindo Bridge connects Jindo county with Haenam county. Together with Jindo Island, Jindo County contains an archipelago of about 230 small islands, of which only 45 are inhabited by 4,855 people. Women make up 52% of the total county population of 41,184. Most of the land is covered by forests (60%) and cultivated fields (30%).

Jindo (island)

Jindo Island is the third largest island in South Korea. Together with a group of much smaller islands, it forms Jindo County. It is located in South Jeolla province, just off the southwest corner of the Korean peninsula. The island is separated from the mainland by the Myeongnyang Strait; however, this strait is now spanned by the South Korea's longest suspension bridge spanning 484 meters.

Modo, Jindo

Modo Island is a small island in Jindo County, South Jeolla province, South Korea, just off the southwest corner of the Korean peninsula. It is located to the south-east of Jindo Island and is about 1.1 km long and 300 meters wide. The tide-related sea level variations result in a local phenomenon when a land pass 2.9 km long and 10–40 meters wide opens for an hour between Modo and Jindo islands. The event occurs approximately twice a year, around April-June.

Hauido

Haui-do is an island off the South Korean coast in the Yellow Sea, part of Sinan County in Jeollanam-do province. Its name means 'a lotus floating on water' and although it is an island by name, it actually comprises 56 separate islands, only nine of which are inhabited. Approximately 57 kilometers to shore, it has an area of 14.46 km² and is home to more than 1,900 people. It was the birthplace of former South Korean president Kim Dae-jung.
