Nagar Kovil

Nagar Kovil or Nagerkovil or Nakarkovil or Nagarcoil is a small town in Jaffna District, Sri Lanka. Its name translates to Temple of King Cobra in Tamil. There is a town in the Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, India with the same name as Nagarcoil. On September 22, 1995, a school was bombed by the Sri Lankan Air Force, killing 39.

Nagerkovil school bombing

The Nager Kovil school bombing refers to a disputed incident in the Sri Lankan Civil War. Tamil sources claim that on September 22, 1995, the Sri Lankan Air Force bombed the Nagar Kovil Maha Vidyalayam school in Jaffna, resulting in the death of, by varying accounts, 34-71 Sri Lankan Tamil civilians, primarily schoolchildren and the injury of many more. The Sri Lankan government denied bombing the school.

Vadamarachchi Lagoon

Vadamarachchi lagoon is a lagoon in Jaffna District, northern Sri Lanka. The lagoon is sometimes referred to as Thondamannar lagoon. The lagoon separates the Vadamarachchi region from the Valikamam and Thenmarachchi regions. The lagoon is connected to the Indian Ocean by a narrow channel to the north, near the town of Thondamannar. The lagoon's water is brackish to saline. There is a sluice gate at Thondamannar to prevent sea water enetering the lagoon.

Mirusuvil

Mirusuvil is a town in the north Sri Lankan city of present it is in the High Security Zone which includes Muhamalai the check-point which collapsed after the tensions between Government security forces and the LTTE in late 2006 which ended in the closure of the A9 road. Mirusuvil lies on the Front Defense Line and together with Nagar Kovil.
