Üechtland

The Üechtland is a region in western Switzerland, where the cities of Berne and Fribourg are located. The name for the region is obsolete; today, it is only used to distinguish Fribourg (German: Freiburg im Üechtland) from Freiburg (or Freiburg im Breisgau) in Germany.

Sense District

Sales, Sarine

Sales is a village and former municipality in the district of Sarine in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland. It was first recorded in 1082 as Sala. The municipality had 114 inhabitants in 1811, which went up and down to 191 in 1850, 160 in 1870, 226 in 1920, 175 in 1930, 213 in 1941 and 153 in 1970. In 1977 the municipality was incorporated into the larger, neighboring municipality Ependes.

Lac de Pérolles

Lac de Pérolles, a lake formed by Maigrauge Dam, is a reservoir on the Saane/Sarine river at Fribourg, in western Switzerland. Its surface area is 0.35 square kilometres . The dam was built in 1872, and its height was increased by 2.5 metres in 1910. The watershed (or catchment) is 1,250 square kilometres . The Maigrauge Dam has a gated spillway.

La Maigrauge Abbey

La Maigrauge Abbey or Magerau Abbey (French: Abbaye de la Maigrauge; German: Abtei Magerau) is a monastery of Cistercian nuns located in Fribourg, Switzerland, and founded in 1255. The abbey is situated on the Sarine River and lies on the border between French-speaking and German-speaking Switzerland. The community is bilingual.
