Maria-Rickenbach
Maria-Rickenbach is a Benedictine monastery for women. It is situated above the village of Niederrickenbach in the municipality of Oberdorf in the Swiss canton of Nidwalden. The monastery is accessible only by cable car from Niederrickenbach Station on the Luzern–Stans–Engelberg railway line. The monastery was established after a 1528 painting of the Madonna was placed in a hollow maple tree on that site.

Bannalpsee
Bannalpsee is a lake in the municipality of Wolfenschiessen in the Swiss canton of Nidwalden. The lake's surface area is 16 hectares . The construction of the reservoir was decided in 1934 and completed in 1937. The reservoir is operated by Elektrizitätswerk Nidwalden. The lake can be reached by a cable car from Oberrickenbach, which in turn is linked by post bus service to Wolfenschiessen station on the Luzern–Stans–Engelberg railway line.

Bannalp
Bannalp is a mountain region in the Swiss canton of Nidwalden, near Engelberg and a major skiing area. In Bannalp region there are three alpine huts and a small lake, Bannalpsee. There is a cable car from Oberrickenbach, near Wolfenschiessen, to Bannalp.

Unterwalden
Unterwalden (Latinized Sylvania, later also Subsylvania as opposed to Supersylvania) is the old name of a forest-canton of the Old Swiss Confederacy in central Switzerland, south of Lake Lucerne, consisting of two valleys or Talschaften, now organized as two half-cantons, an upper part, Obwalden, and a lower part, Nidwalden. Unterwalden was one of the three participants in the foundation of the Old Swiss Confederacy, named in the Pact of Brunnen of 1315 with Uri and Schwyz.

Winkelried
Winkelried was a family of Unterwalden, recorded as members of the lower nobility during the second half of the 13th century and as commoners during the 14th to early 16th centuries. The name is mostly associated with Arnold von Winkelried, the hero of the Battle of Sempach (1386) in Swiss historiography. Because of the importance of Arnold Winkelried in 19th-century Swiss nationalism, much research has gone into the genealogy of this family.
