Cruwys Morchard

Cruwys Morchard is an ecclesiastical and civil parish in the Mid Devon district of the county of Devon in England. It is located about four to five miles west of Tiverton along the road to Witheridge. The parish covers about 5,765 acres of land, and comprises a number of scattered houses and farms, and three small hamlets, Pennymoor, Way Village and Nomansland. The church and the manor house are in the centre of the parish. The population at the time of the 2000 census was 461.

Nomansland, Devon

Nomansland is a hamlet in Devon, England, with a population of about 150. It is eight miles west of Tiverton along the B3137 road and is served by the No. 155 bus, which runs between Exeter and Barnstaple via Tiverton. It is so named because it was at one time a remote extra-parochial area where the Parishes of Witheridge, Thelbridge and Cruwys Morchard met (as they still do, but Nomansland is no longer extra-parochial).

Castle Close

Castle Close is a circular earthwork located near Stoodleigh in Mid Devon, England at OS grid reference SS937181. It is described on maps as a settlement. Situated some 208 metres above sea level, overlooking the River Exe, it is most likely to be an Iron Age Hill fort or enclosure. While the earthworks do not appear as pronounced as others nearby at Huntsham castle, Cranmore Castle and Cadbury Castle, Devon they are still in a classical layout typical of an Iron Age hill fort or enclosure.

Woolfardisworthy, Mid Devon

Woolfardisworthy (pronounced "Woolsery") is a village and civil parish in Mid Devon. It is situated about 9km north of Crediton. According to the Oxford Dictionary of English Place Names (Eilert Ekwall, 4th ed. , 1960), the origin of the name is probably 'Wulfheard's homestead'. The element 'worthy' is from Old English worþig, one of several words for a homestead or small settlement found in English place names. The civil parish also contains the village of Black Dog.
