Fettercairn distillery

Fettercairn is whisky distillery in Fettercairn. It was founded in 1824, shortly after the Customs and Excise Act 1823 drastically reduced excise on whisky production, on the land of Fasque estate in a converted corn mill by the estate's owner Sir Alexander Ramsay, and managed by James Durie. The licencee was James Stewart & Co. Durie later acquired the distillery himself, and operated it until his death in 1854. The distillery was then known as Nethermill.

For the whisky distillery see Fettercairn (whisky distillery) Fettercairn is a small village in northeast Scotland. It is located northwest of Laurencekirk in Aberdeenshire on the B966 from Edzell. Fettercairn is also reached via the Cairn O' Mount road (B974) from Deeside.

Fasque House

Fasque, also known as Fasque House, is a mansion in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, situated near the village of Fettercairn, in the former county of Kincardineshire. Fasque was the property of the Ramsays of Balmain, and the present house was completed around 1809, replacing an earlier house. It was purchased in 1829 by Sir John Gladstone, 1st Baronet, father of William Ewart Gladstone, Prime Minister to Queen Victoria, who spent much of his childhood here.
