Laggan Dam

Laggan Dam is a dam located on the River Spean south west of Loch Laggan in the Scottish Highlands. The dam is 700 feet (213 metres) long and rises 170 feet (52 metres) above its foundations, and is part of the Lochaber hydro-electric scheme. The structure was built by Balfour Beatty for the British Aluminium Company and construction was finished in 1934. Water from the dam is conveyed to Loch Treig through 3 miles (4.8 km) of tunnel.

Loch Treig

Loch Treig is a 9 km freshwater loch situated in a steep-sided glen 20 km east of Fort William, in Lochaber, Highland, Scotland. While there are no roads alongside the loch, the West Highland Line follows its eastern bank. Since 1929 Loch Treig has been a reservoir, retained behind the Treig Dam, forming part of the Lochaber hydro-electric scheme, which required diversion of the West Highland Railway.

Lochaber Narrow Gauge Railway

The Lochaber Narrow Gauge Railway was a 36 gauge narrow gauge industrial railway. It was a relatively long line, built for the construction and subsequent maintenance of a 15 miles long tunnel from Loch Treig to a factory near Fort William in Scotland. The tunnel was excavated to carry water for the Lochaber hydro-electric power scheme in connection with aluminium production by the British Aluminium Company. The railway came to be known colloquially as the 'Old Puggy Line'.
