Mearns Academy
Mearns Academy is a secondary school in south Aberdeenshire, Scotland serving Laurencekirk and the surrounding areas (St. Cyrus, Marykirk, Fettercairn, Auchenblae, Luthermuir, Edzell Woods, Fordoun and Edzell). The school building was the former primary school before it moved and now has over 600 pupils. Currently, plans are being drawn for a new school as the conditions have been seen as unacceptable to councils. A plan includes the school to be built in the current playing field.

Fordoun
Fordoun (Pronounced "For-Dun") is a parish and village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Fothirdun (possibly "the lower place"), as it was historically known, was an important area in the Howe of the Mearns. Fordoun and Auchenblae, together with their immediate districts form the Parish of Fordoun with the Parish Church in the vicinity of the original settlement, now absorbed by Auchenblae.

Lauriston Castle, Aberdeenshire
Lauriston Castle stands on a clifftop site near the Aberdeenshire village of St Cyrus and just over a mile inland from the North Sea coast of Scotland. Once a royal fortress, it can claim to be one of the oldest privately owned and inhabited castles in the region. By tradition, it was the stronghold of Giric, Grig or Gregory the Great, one of the last of the Pictish kings (AD 878–889). Monboddo House
Monboddo House is a historically famous mansion in The Mearns, Scotland. The structure was generally associated with the Burnett of Leys family. The property itself was owned by the Barclay family from the 13th century, at which time a tower house structure was erected. In 1593, the Laird was James Strachan, and thence it passed into the Irvine family and thereafter the Burnetts of Leys.
