The community is named after postmaster Frank W. Slocomb. Slocomb calls itself the "home of the tomato. " Their school mascot is the "Redtop". (Slocomb High School)

WDFX-TV is the Fox-affiliated television station for Southeastern Alabama's Wiregrass Region.
