Touro University California is an independent, not-for-profit Jewish-sponsored graduate school located on Mare Island in Vallejo, a city in the northern San Francisco Bay Area, in the U.S. state of California. The university specializes in graduate studies in education, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, and public health. The Touro University California Campus consists of 44 acres and 23 buildings of the former Mare Island naval base located east of the San Pablo Bay.

California Maritime Academy

Mare Island

Mare Island is a peninsula in the United States alongside the city of Vallejo, California, about 23 miles northeast of San Francisco. The Napa River forms its eastern side as it enters the Carquinez Strait juncture with the east side of San Pablo Bay. Mare Island is considered a peninsula because no full body of water separates this or several other named "islands" from the mainland. Instead, a series of small sloughs cause seasonal water-flows among the so-called islands.

Carquinez Bridge

The Carquinez Bridge refers to parallel bridges spanning the Carquinez Strait, forming part of Interstate 80 between Crockett and Vallejo, California. The name originally referred to a single cantilever bridge built in 1927, helping to form a direct route between San Francisco and Sacramento. A second parallel cantilever bridge was completed in 1958 to deal with the increased traffic.
