Pittsburg, Colorado

Pittsburg is a former mining town from the late 19th century located about 9 miles north of Crested Butte, Colorado. While Pittsburg is sometimes considered a ghost town, none of the original structures still exist. The only cabins that still exist in the area were built after 1973 and are strictly summer vacation homes, as the area is inaccessible by cars during the winter. Pittsburg was named in honor of the industrial heritage of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Schofield Pass (Colorado)

Schofield Pass is a high mountain pass located in Colorado, and is one of the most popular ways to get to Snowmass Mountain. It is the high point on Gothic Road, which connects the towns of Marble and Crested Butte. The road to the summit is suitable for a passenger car if traveling from the east; however, after this it is rated 4-wheel drive only as it switchbacks down the west side through the Devil's Punchbowl Canyon and becomes a narrow, rocky shelf road.
