Starr Mill

Two 19th century factory buildings are sited on a bank beside Starr Mill pond on Beverly Heights just off Middlefield Street. Each building is 3½ stories tall, and overlooks a picturesque pond and woods to the west; a parking lot packed with trucks and industrial equipment on the south; and nineteenth century housing on Beverly Heights to the north.

Wadsworth Falls State Park

Wadsworth Falls State Park, or simply Wadsworth Falls, is a Connecticut state park located in the towns of Middletown and Middlefield. The park lies in the northeast corner of Middlefield, and extends across the town border into Middletown with the main entrance on Route 157. The park itself consists of a series of marked trails covering 285 acres and is intersected by the Coginchaug River, a tributary of the Connecticut River. There is also a swimming and picnicking area in the park grounds.

Coginchaug River

The Coginchaug River in Connecticut, with a watershed of 39 square miles including forests, pastures, farmland, industrial, and commercial areas, is the predominant tributary of the Mattabesset River. 15.5 miles long, it flows mostly north from Myer Huber Pond in Guilford, Connecticut (about 1.2 miles by road south of the Durham line, and about 400 feet west of Route 77) into Durham and then Middlefield, meeting the Mattabesset in Middletown, about 0.8 miles upstream of the Connecticut River.

Van Vleck Observatory

Van Vleck Observatory (VVO, IAU code 298) is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by Wesleyan University. It was built in 1914 and named after the former head of the Department of Mathematics and Astronomy at the university, Prof. John M. Van Vleck. It is located in Middletown, Connecticut (USA).
