Salisbury Embayment

The Salisbury Embayment was an arm of the Atlantic Ocean which covered what is now Delaware, southern and eastern Maryland, the Virginia Peninsula and parts of southern New Jersey during Tertiary times, from about 65 million to 5 million years ago. Sea level throughout most of this period stood several hundred feet higher than at present, and deposition of sediments draining off the continent possibly caused the underlying rocks to sink down, creating the embayment.

Marshyhope Creek

Marshyhope Creek is a 37.0-mile-long tributary of the Nanticoke River on the Delmarva Peninsula. It rises in Kent County, Delaware, and runs through Caroline County, Maryland, and Dorchester County, Maryland. Marshyhope Creek begins in southwestern Kent County, Delaware, near the city of Harrington, and ends at the Nanticoke River, near Sharptown, Maryland. The entire watershed is in the coastal plain and reaches sea level at Brookview, Maryland. Federalsburg is the head of navigation.

Apple Scrapple Festival

First held in 1992, the Apple Scrapple Festival is held annually during the second weekend in October in Bridgeville, Delaware Notable events include the Ladies Iron Skillet Toss, the Scrapple Chunkin' Contest, and the Mayor's Scrapple Sling. Apple Scrapple is not just a clever sounding name, but is derived from two agricultural products which are important to this region, apples and scrapple. The festival itself honors these two foods and provides a wealth of other events and activities.
