The Port of Jacksonville (JAXPORT) is an international trade seaport on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. The newest port in the United States, it carries over 21 million tons of cargo each year and has an annual impact of over $19 billion, including 65,000 jobs. It serves the Greater Jacksonville Metropolitan Area, and is the second largest handler of vehicles in the United States with 656,805 in fiscal year 2008.

JAXPORT Cruise Terminal

The JAXPORT Cruise Terminal is a 63,000 sq ft "temporary" cruise ship terminal in Jacksonville, Florida. The facility located at the northwest corner of the Dames Point Marine Terminal, beside the Dames Point Bridge. It was completed in six months during 2003 and is a facility at the Port of Jacksonville, administered by the Jacksonville Port Authority. The baggage handling area is 28,000 sq ft; and a passenger embarkation section has 15,000 sq ft .

Battle of Saint John's Bluff

The Battle of Saint (or St. ) John's Bluff (October 1–3, 1862) saw a Union detachment defeat Confederate forces in Duval County, Florida, forcing them to retire, and helped secure Federal control of the region, during the American Civil War. Early in the war, Confederate Brig. Gen. Joseph Finnegan established a battery on St. John's Bluff near Jacksonville, Florida, to stop the movement of Federal ships up the St. Johns River.
