South Florida State College (SFSC) is a College with campuses in Highlands, DeSoto and Hardee counties, Florida. It is a member of the Florida College System. SFSC was founded in 1965 and serves around 16,000 students a year. The Highlands Campus, on 228 acres, is located two miles (3 km) south of Avon Park, Florida. It is bounded on the north by Lake Lelia, to the south by Lake Glenada, and to the west by U.S. Highway 27.

Avon Park is a city in Highlands County, Florida, United States. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the city's population in 2009 at 8,824. It is the oldest city in Highlands County, and was named after Stratford-upon-Avon, England.

Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (Avon Park, Florida)

The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, built in 1894, is an historic Carpenter Gothic church located at 20 East Pleasant Street in Avon Park, Florida, USA. In 1989, it was listed in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press. The church is still an active parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida and now holds services at 910 West Martin Road.

Lake Verona

Lake Verona is located within the city of Avon Park, Florida. While the lake covers only 41 acres, it gets deep quickly, with a maximum depth of about 80 feet . There is an area to launch boats where Church Street meets up with the lake's shore. Also, there is a public park with picnic tables and shelterhouses. A public swimming beach is included in the park. However, swimming should be done with caution, since the water gets deep quickly.

Lake Denton

Lake Denton is a 66-acre lake in Highlands County in the U.S. state of Florida. It is between the cities of Avon Park and Sebring. Its maximum depth is 51 feet . Divers use the lake for recreation and training. Lake Denton Camp, run by Lake Denton Management Inc. is located on its shore. The property Lake Denton Camp is located on is owned by The Orange Blossom Baptist Association. Lake Denton has a public boat ramp, but no public swimming areas.
