Lowndes County (pronounced Lounds) is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia along the Florida border. It was created December 23, 1825. As of the 2010 Census showed a population of 109,233. The county seat is Valdosta. It is the largest county in the Valdosta, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county is a major commercial, educational, and manufacturing center of south Georgia with considerable forest products including pulpwood and naval stores, such as turpentine and rosin.

Valdosta State University, winner of the NCAA Division II National Football Championship in 2004, 2007, and 2012, also uses Bazemore–Hyder Stadium as a home field. The stadium holds 11,249 people and was opened in 1922. The original name of the stadium was Cleveland Field.

Valdosta State is located on a 168-acre campus at the heart of the city of Valdosta. VSU serves over 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students representing 157 Georgia counties, all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Washington, D.C.
