Clayton is a city in Custer County, Idaho, United States. The population was 7 at the 2010 census, down from 27 in 2000. The name is derived from early resident Clayton Smith, who is alleged to be the owner of a bawdy house. It is adjacent to the Salmon River.

Custer County, Idaho

Custer County is a rural mountain county located in the center of the U.S. state of Idaho. Established in 1881, it was named for the General Custer Mine, where gold was discovered five years earlier (shortly after Custer's death at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in eastern Montana). The population was 4,368 at the 2010 census. The county seat is Challis. The center of population of Idaho is located in Custer County, in the city of Stanley.

Sullivan Lake (Idaho)

Sullivan Lake is a landslide-dammed mountain lake in Custer County, Idaho, United States, located at the northern end of the White Cloud Mountains in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The lake is accessed from Sawtooth National Forest trail 677 from Idaho State Highway 75. Sullivan Lake is just east of Potaman Peak and upstream of Sullivan Hot Springs.
