Benewah County is a county located in the U.S. state of Idaho. Established on January 23, 1915, from sections of Kootenai County, it was named for a chief of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe. As of the 2010 census the county had a population of 9,285. The county seat and largest city is St. Maries.

St. Maries (pronounced like "St. Mary's") is a city in north central Idaho, the largest in rural Benewah County and its county seat. Its population was 2,402 at the 2010 census, down from 2,652 in 2000.

Saint Maries River

Saint Maries River is a river located in the U.S. state of Idaho. It is a tributary of Coeur d'Alene Lake and thus part of the Spokane River drainage basin and the Columbia River Basin. The West and Middle Forks of the river join near Clarkia, Idaho and run parallel to State Highway 3 in a northwesterly direction to St. Maries. The area is on the eastern edge of the Columbia River Plateau and is to the west of the Bitterroot Mountains.

St. Maries High School

St. Maries High School is a four-year public secondary school in St. Maries, Idaho, the only high school in the St. Maries Joint School District #41. Located in north central Idaho in Benewah County, the high school is just north of the city and its airport, across the St. Joe River. Adjacent to a national forest in an area historically dominated by logging, the school colors are forest green and gold and the mascot is a lumberjack. The middle school and only elementary school (Heyburn) in St.
