The ski resort opened in 1959 and features two restaurants, a lodge with 119 rooms, an indoor pool and hot tub area, as well as several other accommodations. It is one of the largest ski resorts in the Midwest and the largest in Illinois, with an area of 220 acres and a 420 foot vertical drop.

Galena (Amtrak station)
The Galena Amtrak station is a proposed train station located in Galena, Illinois, and will serve a new Chicago-Rockford-Dubuque Amtrak route that is expected to begin operation in late 2014 or early 2015. The existing depot is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and the city of Galena proposes using the existing depot (which is currently in use as a tourist information center) as Galena's Amtrak station.
