Clifford, Illinois

Clifford is a former unincorporated community in northwestern Williamson County, Illinois. It is a former early 20th Century mining settlement that has all but disappeared since the closing of local mines. A post office established in 26 January 1905, ceased operating after 1931. The population in 1958 was listed as 300.

Dewmaine, Illinois

Dewmaine was an unincorporated African-American community in Williamson County, Illinois, based around a coal mine. Today the area is almost completely non-residential and vacant land, though it now sits at the northern edge of Carterville. It was named in honor of Admiral Dewey and the USS Maine from the Spanish-American War. A post office by the name Dewmaine opened up 6 March 1901 and discontinued operations on 31 July 1931. It is now served by the Carterville post office.

Herrin is a city in Williamson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,501 at the 2010 census. It is home to Country Music star David Lee Murphy, the hometown of baseball's Cleveland shortstop Ray Chapman, and the hometown of San Diego State University men's basketball coach Steve Fisher, as well as Medal of Honor recipient Joseph William Ozbourn.
