Cuivre River

The Cuivre River is a 41.6-mile-long river in the east central part of the state of Missouri, north of the Missouri River terminus. A good part of its course marks the borders between Lincoln and St. Charles counties before emptying into the Mississippi River north of St. Louis. The Cuivre River State Park near Troy, Missouri has its southwestern borders on the river. The river is declared not to be a navigable stream, and shall be so treated by the Secretary of the Army.

Battle of the Sink Hole

The Battle of the Sink Hole was fought on May 24, 1815, after the official end of the War of 1812, between Missouri Rangers and Sauk Indians led by Black Hawk. The Sauk were unaware, or did not care, that their British patrons had signed the Treaty of Ghent with the U.S. The battle was fought in a low spot near the mouth of the Cuivre River in Missouri (present day City of Old Monroe), near Fort Howard and Fort Cap au Gris.

Lock and Dam No. 25

Lock and Dam No. 25 is a lock and dam located near Winfield, Missouri on the Upper Mississippi River around river mile 241.4. The movable portion of the dam is 1,296 feet long and consists of three roller gates and 14 tainter gates. A 2,566 feet submersible dike extends to the Illinois shore. A 5 miles long dike is part of the facility extending upstream on the Missouri side of the river. The main lock is 110 feet wide by 600 feet long.
