Avoca Township, Livingston County, Illinois
Avoca Township is located in Livingston County, Illinois. The population was 386 at the 2000 census. The township is named after the former community of Avoca, settled in 1832 by William (1785–1834) and Sarah McDowell (1787–1858) and their seven children. The Avoca post office was established on 7 June 1838, and community was laid out in 1854. A church (the Pioneer Church) was built in the settlement in 1856.

WPOK (AM)
WPOK was an daytime-only AM broadcasting station in Pontiac, Illinois in the late 20th century. Owned by Collins Miller and Lane Lindstrom, it went on the air on August 1, 1966. In 1975 it was running a middle of the road (music) format, simulcast on its FM sister station 103.1 WPOK-FM. The FM changed its callsign to WJEZ in November 1984, and by 1989 AM and FM had separate formats: 1080 WPOK with oldies and 103.1 WJEZ with modern country music.

Pontiac Correctional Center
Pontiac Correctional Center, established in June 1871, is an Illinois Department of Corrections maximum security prison (Level 1) for adult males in Pontiac, Illinois. The prison also has a medium security unit that houses medium to minimum security inmates and is classified as Level 3. Until the 2011 abolition of the death penalty in Illinois, the prison housed male death row inmates, but had no execution chamber. Inmates were executed at the Tamms Correctional Center.
