George L. Luthy Memorial Botanical Garden
The autumn of 2011 marked the 60th anniversary of Luthy Botanical Garden, a Peoria landmark known for magnificent flower shows, botanical displays, events and horticultural education. The current facility opened on November 21, 1951 with the Chrysanthemum Show, originally a popular show at the ornate Palm House, the first structure built in Glen Oak Park in 1896.

Peoria High is located at 1615 N. North Street and moved to this location in 1916. Peoria High School is commonly referred to as "Central" to distinguish it from Richwoods and Manual, and it is centrally located in Peoria.

Established in 1691 by the French explorer Henri de Tonti, Peoria is the oldest European settlement in Illinois, and is named after the Peoria tribe.
