Lake Bracken

Lake Bracken is a reservoir in Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois, United States. Managed by the Lake Bracken Country Club, the lake was formed in 1921 with the damming of Brush Creek. It is part of the Spoon River drainage basin, and has a surface area of 172 acres . Its "overall resource quality" was assessed as "fair" in 1996 by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Channel catfish, largemouth bass, and carp are known to live in the lake.

Carl Sandburg State Historic Site

Carl Sandburg State Historic Site was the birthplace and boyhood home of author Carl Sandburg in Galesburg, Illinois. It is operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. The site contains the cottage Sandburg was born in, a visitor center with a museum about Carl Sandburg, a museum shop, a small theater, and the rock under which he and his wife Lilian are buried.

Abingdon, Illinois

Abingdon is a city in Knox County, Illinois, 50 miles (80 km) west of Peoria. It is part of the Galesburg Micropolitan Statistical Area. The city was first settled in 1828 and was incorporated in 1857. In 1894, the patent for the common spring-loaded mousetrap was given to William Hooker of Abingdon, Illinois. In 1890, 1,321 people lived here; in 1900, 2,022; and in 1910, 2,464. The population was 3,612 at the 2000 census.
