Ringgold County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 5,131 in the 2010 census, a decline from 5,469 in the 2000 census. The county seat is Mount Ayr. It is named after Maj. Samuel Ringgold, a hero of the Battle of Palo Alto fought in May 1846, during the Mexican-American War. It is one of the 26 Iowa counties which has a name not borne by any other county in the United States.
