Elk, Kansas

Elk is a ghost town in Diamond Creek Township, Chase County, Kansas, United States. Founded in the 19th century, it remained into the 1920s. The community is no longer in existence. It lay along Middle Creek above Elmdale, very close to Chase County's border with Marion County. The settlement had a general store, and a post office until 1923, when it was replaced by rural free delivery.

It is named after the Kansas River which flows through it, which in turn was named after the Kansa Native American tribe, which inhabited the area. The tribe's name is often said to mean "people of the wind" or "people of the south wind," although this was probably not the term's original meaning. Residents of Kansas are called "Kansans.

It lies along local roads south-southwest of the city of Council Grove, the county seat of Morris County.
