Homer, Louisiana

The town of Homer is the parish seat of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, United States. The town was named after the Greek poet Homer and was laid out around the Courthouse Square in 1850 by Frank Vaughn. The present-day brick courthouse, built in the Greek Revival style of architecture, is one of only four pre-Civil War courthouses in Louisiana still in use.

Lisbon, Louisiana

Lisbon is a village in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 185 at the 2010 census. Lisbon is located east of the parish seat of Homer. In the late 19th century Lisbon was the location of the former Lisbon Academy, attended for a brief time by T. H. Harris, state superintendent of education from 1908 to 1940. Lisbon was the birthplace of another Louisiana educator, John Sparks Patton, who once lost a race for state superintendent to T. H.

David Wade Correctional Center

David Wade Correctional Center (DWCC) is a Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections prison located in an unincorporated area of Claiborne Parish between Homer and Haynesville, Louisiana. The prison is located near the Louisiana-Arkansas border. The N-5 Special Management Unit, which as of 2001 holds some fifty prisoners, is a special protection unit.

Lake Claiborne

Lake Claiborne is a reservoir located near the town of Homer, Louisiana. Isolated in a rural area, it is a popular man-made fishing area that has a combined estimated area of 6,400 acres . Lake Claiborne State Park, a Louisiana state maintained camping and recreation area, lies on southern shore of the lake. The lake was created by the construction of Clairborne Lock and Dam by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1970.
