The lake lies in the towns of Milton, New Hampshire, and Lebanon, Maine. It connects with Northeast Pond to the northeast, and with Town House Pond to the north. A dam at the outlet of Milton Pond controls the water level for all three lakes.

The Branch River is an 11.9 mile long (19.1 km) river located in eastern New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Salmon Falls River, part of the Piscataqua River watershed leading to the Atlantic Ocean.
