The Rangeley River and Kennebago River both flow into northeastern Mooselookmeguntic Lake. The lake is just a few miles from the Appalachian Trail.

Its waters flow out from the lake's northwestern end into the short Rangeley River, then into Mooselookmeguntic Lake, and ultimately into the Androscoggin River, Merrymeeting Bay, the lower Kennebec River, the Gulf of Maine and the Atlantic Ocean. The lake is one of the major headwater lakes of the Androscoggin watershed.

Orgonon
Orgonon was the 160-acre home, laboratory and research center of the Austrian-born psychiatrist Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957). Located in Rangeley, Maine, it is Reich's burial place, and is now open to the public as the Wilhelm Reich Museum. The name is a play on orgone energy.
