Tuckahoe Creek

Tuckahoe Creek is a 21.5-mile-long tributary of the Choptank River on Maryland's Eastern Shore. It is sometimes (erroneously) referred to as the Tuckahoe River. Upstream of Hillsboro, it forms the boundary between Caroline County and Queen Anne's County, passing through Tuckahoe State Park and dividing the small towns of Queen Anne and Hillsboro. Downstream of Hillsboro, it forms the boundary between Caroline County and Talbot County, before flowing into the Choptank.

Frederick Douglass

Frederick Douglass (born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, c. February 1818 – February 20, 1895) was an American social reformer, orator, writer and statesman. After escaping from slavery, he became a leader of the abolitionist movement, gaining note for his dazzling oratory and incisive antislavery writing. He stood as a living counter-example to slaveholders' arguments that slaves did not have the intellectual capacity to function as independent American citizens.

History of slavery in Maryland

The institution of slavery in Maryland would last around 200 years, from its beginnings in 1642 when the first Africans were brought to St Mary's City, to the final elimination of slavery in 1864 during the penultimate year of the American Civil War. Initially, slavery developed along very similar lines to neighboring Virginia.
