Enchanted Forest (Maryland)

The Enchanted Forest is a now-closed theme park in Ellicott City, Maryland, on U.S. Route 40 (Baltimore National Pike) near the intersection with Bethany Lane. Other theme parks with the same name have since opened elsewhere. The Enchanted Forest officially opened on August 15, 1955, following a preview party the afternoon before — one month after Disneyland Park's opening. Appealing mostly to families with small children, the park had a nursery rhyme theme.

Centennial High School (Howard County, Maryland)

Centennial High School is a secondary school in Ellicott City, Maryland that opened in 1977. The school is based in Howard County and is part of the Howard County Public Schools system. Starting with the 2009 school year, the school principal is Carl Perkins. A previous principal was Lynda Mitic, who took up the post in 1996 and retired in 2004, shortly before a civil rights lawsuit was brought by English teacher Michelle Maupin, claiming racial discrimination.

United Airlines Flight 297

United Airlines Flight 297, a Vickers Viscount 745D, was a scheduled flight from Newark International Airport (EWR/KEWR) in Newark, New Jersey to Washington, D.C. with 17 people on board. On November 23, 1962 at approximately 12:24 P.M. EDT, it crashed just northwest of what is now Columbia, Maryland after striking a flock of whistling swans while cruising at 6,000 feet (1,800 m).

Maryland's 7th congressional district

Maryland's 7th congressional district elects a representative to the United States House of Representatives every two years. The seat is currently represented by Elijah Cummings. It encompasses just over half of Baltimore City, most of the majority African American sections of Baltimore County, and the majority of Howard County, Maryland. The district was created following the census of 1950, which gave Maryland one additional representative in the House.

Wilde Lake, Columbia, Maryland

Wilde Lake is a reservoir and also the name of the surrounding neighborhood, or "village", located in Columbia, Maryland, just north and west of the Columbia Town Center. It was the first portion of the "New Town" of Columbia to be built during the late 1960s, and was occupied in 1967. The lake and village are named for Frazar B. Wilde, a past chairman of the board of Connecticut General Life Insurance Company.
