Catoctin AVA

The Catoctin AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in the Frederick and Washington counties of western Maryland. The region is bordered by Catoctin Mountain to the east, the Pennsylvania border to the north, South Mountain to the west, and the Potomac River to the south. "Catoctin" is Algonquian for "speckled rock", a geological feature of the area. Two commercial wineries operate in the AVA, Frederick Cellars, and Orchid Cellars.

Fort Ritchie, Maryland

Fort Ritchie is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washington County, Maryland, United States, just south of the Pennsylvania state line. The population was 276 at the 2000 census. Fort Ritchie is a former U.S. military base that closed in September 1998 pursuant to the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure Commission. Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania is immediately to the north.

Quirauk Mountain

Quirauk Mountain is the highest point on South Mountain. The 2,145-foot peak is located in northeastern Washington County, Maryland. It lies just southwest of Fort Ritchie Military Reservation in the village of Cascade and about 1/2 mile southeast of the community of Blue Mountain. The Appalachian Trail and South Mountain State Park are about 1/2 mile to the west of the mountain's summit.

WAYZ

WAYZ is a Country formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Hagerstown, Maryland, serving the Four-State Area. WAYZ is owned and operated by VerStandig Broadcasting. FM 104.7 came on the air in 1946 as WJEJ-FM (sister to WJEJ 1240). Until 2000 the station was known as easy listening/beautiful music formatted WWMD under Hagerstown Broadcasting, when the station was sold to VerStandig. At that time the callsigns for 104.7 WWMD and 101.5 WAYZ were swapped.
