The sanctuary contains 184 acres of mixed cultural grasslands, red maple swamps, oak-pine woodland and access to the North River. The North River Wildlife Sanctuary came to Mass Audubon as a gift of the Killam and Rodgers families in 1977.

Hanover Mall
Hanover Mall is a one story, enclosed shopping mall with 80 shops and restaurants, including Macy's, Sears, J.C. Penney and Wal-Mart. The mall was built in 1971 and renovated in 1999. It serves local communities as a neighborhood mall of sorts, an alternative for shoppers looking to avoid the larger, more crowded malls nearby. Originally the mall anchors were Woolworth, Zayre and Almy's. Almy's closed in 1987 and its space was filled by Filene's.

Lester J. Gates Intermediate School, known more commonly as Gates Intermediate School or "Gates" is the junior high school of the Scituate, Massachusetts public school system, serving seventh and eighth grade students. It is located on First Parish Rd. , within walking distance of Lawson Tower and Scituate High School. It is named from a former Scituate selectman and Grand Master Mason, Lester J. Gates. It used to be Scituate High School until the present-day Scituate High School was built.
