Sturgeon Bay, Michigan

Sturgeon Bay was a small lumbering community the U.S. state of Michigan, located in Bliss Township on the southern border of what is now Wilderness State Park in the northwest of Emmet County, Michigan. Almost nothing remains of Sturgeon Bay. It was located on the south shore of Sturgeon Bay, just west of where Sturgeon Bay Trail and M-119 intersect. The first mill was founded by Alfred B. Klise in 1895 and a small town sprung up around said mill.

Emmet County, Michigan

Emmet County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the population was 31,437. The county seat is Petoskey. The county was formed April 1, 1840, from Mackinac County. It was first named Tonedagana County and renamed Emmet County on March 8, 1843. Emmet County remained attached to Mackinac County for administrative purposes until county government was organized in 1853.

Waugoshance Point

Waugoshance Point is a headland that juts into Lake Michigan from the northwest coast of the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. It lies entirely within Wilderness State Park in Emmet County. The nearest major town is Mackinaw City. The headland separates the Straits of Mackinac to the north from Sturgeon Bay to the south. Off the tip of Waugoshance Point lie two sizable uninhabited islands, Temperance and Waugoshance, that extend still further westward into Lake Michigan.
