The 12 Mile Road–Kalamazoo River Bridge, also known as State Reward Bridge No. 53, is a filled-spandrel concrete arch bridge in Ceresco, Michigan, that carries 12 Mile Road over the Kalamazoo River. Built in 1920, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

FireKeepers Casino

FireKeepers Casino Hotel is a 236,000-square-foot casino and hotel in Emmett Charter Township, Michigan, between Battle Creek and Marshall. It is owned and operated by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi. Construction began May 7, 2008, and the casino opened to the general public on August 5, 2009 at 10 a.m. EST. The casino has a huge electronic sign on the I-94 expressway, the heavily traveled corridor between Detroit and Chicago.

Calhoun County, Michigan

Calhoun County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. The county seat is Marshall. As of the 2010 census, the population was 136,146. The entire county is co-terminous with the Battle Creek Metropolitan Statistical Area. Calhoun County was established on October 19, 1829 and named after John C. Calhoun, who was at the time Vice President under Andrew Jackson, making it one of Michigan's Cabinet counties. County government was first organized March 6, 1833.

Enbridge oil spill

On the evening of Sunday, July 25 2010, at about 5:58 p.m. EDT, a 40-foot long pipe segment in Line 6B, located approximately 0.6 of a miles downstream of the Marshall, Michigan pump station, ruptured. The rupture in the Enbridge Energy pipeline caused a 877,000 US gallons spill of heavy crude oil originating from Canada (Alberta and Saskatchewan) into Talmadge Creek in Calhoun County, Michigan, which flows into the Kalamazoo River.
