The Boardman River is a 28.2-mile-long river that flows into the west arm of Grand Traverse Bay in Traverse City, Michigan. The Boardman's upper tributaries rise near Kalkaska, Michigan, and its watershed drains an area of 295 square miles through 130 miles of river and tributaries. The Boardman River is considered one of the top ten trout streams in Michigan.

Pugsley Correctional Facility is a Michigan minimum security prison operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections Correctional Facilities Administration (CFA), located outside Kingsley, Michigan, 25 miles southeast of Traverse City in Grand Traverse County. Pugsley Correctional Facility sits on 180 acres; within that area, 23 acres are enclosed by two 15.5-foot-high fences to create a secure perimeter that houses 1,342 adult male prisoners.
