Brevort Township, Michigan

Brevort Township is a civil township of Mackinac County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township population was 649. Most of the township land is within the eastern portion of the Hiawatha National Forest. The township includes part of the Mackinac Wilderness, a listed Wilderness Area. The township was named after Henry Brevort (or Brevoort), a surveyor assigned to subdivide the area in 1845.

Mackinac Bridge Walk

The Mackinac Bridge Walk is an annual event held every Labor Day since 1958 in Michigan in which people may walk the length of the Mackinac Bridge. Walkers are traditionally led across by the governor of Michigan, currently Rick Snyder. In an average year, 40,000 to 65,000 people participate in the five-mile walk. This is nearly the combined population of the three counties connected occupied by the bridge.

Lake Michigan–Huron

Lake Michigan–Huron (also Huron–Michigan) is the combined waters of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, which are joined through the narrow, open-water Straits of Mackinac. They are sometimes considered a single lake because the flow of water through the straits keeps their water levels in near-equilibrium. Although the flow is generally eastward, the water moves in either direction depending on local conditions.
