North Manitou Island
North Manitou Island is located in Lake Michigan, approximately 12 miles west-northwest of Leland, Michigan. It is nearly eight miles long and over four miles (6 km) wide, with 20 miles of shoreline. It has a land area of 57.876 km² (22.346 sq mi) and has no population. Smaller South Manitou Island lies to its southwest. Both islands are in Leelanau County and are part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, although they are over 6 miles offshore.

Leelanau County, Michigan
Leelanau County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is part of the Traverse City, Michigan, Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, the population was 21,119. The county seat was until recently the unincorporated community of Leland. On August 3, 2004, county voters approved a proposal to move the county seat to Suttons Bay Township, closer to the county's geographic center.

South Manitou Island
South Manitou Island is located in Lake Michigan, approximately 16 miles west of Leland, Michigan. It is part of Leelanau County and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The uninhabited island is 8.277 square miles in land area and can be accessed by a ferry service from Leland. Larger North Manitou Island lies to its north. South Manitou Island was popular in the 19th and 20th centuries as a harbor and fueling station.

SS Francisco Morazan (1922)
Francisco Morazan was a 1,442 GRT cargo ship that was built in 1922 as Arcadia by Deutsche Werft, Hamburg, for German owners. She was sold in 1924 and renamed Elbing She was seized by the Allies in the River Elbe, Germany in May 1945, passed to the United Kingdom's Ministry of War Transport and renamed Empire Congress. In 1946, she was allocated to the Norwegian Government and renamed Brunes.

The Leelanau School is a coed non-profit boarding high school located in Glen Arbor, Michigan. The school was founded in 1929, and is a small, college-preparatory school with 42 acres of land with 13 year-round and 9 seasonal building structures.
