Duck Lake (Iowa)

Duck Lake is a small lake in the wetlands on the western shore of the Upper Mississippi River, just north of Lansing, Iowa, in northeastern Allamakee County. It is a part of the New Albin-Big Lake Wildlife Management Area, which itself is surrounded by the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. It is connected to the Upper Iowa River, but leaks directly to the Big River itself.

Victory, Wisconsin

Victory, Wisconsin is a small unincorporated community in the Town of Wheatland in Vernon County, Wisconsin. It is located 4.5 miles north of De Soto and 6.2 miles south of Genoa on the Mississippi River along the Great River Road. The Battle of Bad Axe, the final battle of the Black Hawk War of 1832, took place near this community.

Lock and Dam No. 8

Lock and Dam No. 8 is a lock and dam located near Genoa, Wisconsin on the Upper Mississippi River near river mile 679.2. It was constructed and put into operation by April 1937. The site underwent major rehabilitation from 1989 through 2003. The dam consists of a concrete structure 934 feet long with five roller gates and 10 tainter gates. The earth embankment is 17,500 feet long with two submersible spillways, 938 feet long and 1,338 feet long. The lock is 110 feet wide by 600 feet long.

Battle of Bad Axe

The Battle of Bad Axe, also known as the Bad Axe Massacre, occurred 1–2 August 1832, between Sauk (Sac) and Fox Indians and United States Army regulars and militia. This final battle of the Black Hawk War took place near present-day Victory, Wisconsin in the United States. It marked the end of the war between white settlers and militia in Illinois and Michigan Territory, and the Sauk and Fox tribes under warrior Black Hawk.
