Attala County, Mississippi

Attala County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2010, the population was 19,564. Its county seat is Kosciusko. Attala county is named for Attala, a fictional Native American heroine from an early-19th-century novel by François-René de Chateaubriand. The historian of the American Civil War, John D. Winters was born in Attala County in 1917.

Kosciusko, Mississippi

Kosciusko is a city in Attala County, Mississippi. The population was 7,372 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Attala County. Kosciusko is located on the Natchez Trace Parkway, northeast of Jackson. It is named for the Polish general Tadeusz Kościuszko, who assisted United States military efforts during the American Revolution. However the Anglicized name of the township omits the "z".

WKOZ

WKOZ (1340 The Groove) was a radio station broadcasting a Rhythm and Blues format. Licensed to Kosciusko, Mississippi, USA, the station was owned by Boswell Media, which acquired the station in 2006. On July 13, 2012, WKOZ ceased broadcasting after 65 years on the air. On August 6, 2012, the FCC canceled the license for WKOZ, at the request of Boswell Media.

McAdams, Mississippi

McAdams is an unincorporated community in Attala County, Mississippi. It is located southwest of Kosciusko along Mississippi Highway 12. The community was settled by the McAdams family in 1845, and grew to over 200 of the family by 1887. Many moved on to Louisiana and Texas by 1898.
