Fort Rosalie

Fort Rosalie was a French fort built in 1716 in the territory of the Natchez Native Americans. The present-day city of Natchez, Mississippi developed at this site. As part of the peace terms that ended the Natchez War of 1716, Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville required the Natchez to build the fort by providing materials and labor.

St. Mary Basilica, Natchez

The Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows (Saint Mary Basilica) is a Catholic basilica church in Natchez, Mississippi. The Diocese of Natchez was erected in 1837, and in 1842 construction began on a new cathedral. It was dedicated on December 25, 1843 and consecrated on September 19, 1886 and remained the cathedral of the diocese until 1977. It was designated a minor basilica on September 8, 1998 and dedicated as such on September 25, 1999. In 2007 the body of Bishop John J.

Rhythm Club fire

The Rhythm Club fire aka The Natchez Dance Hall Holocaust was a fire in Natchez, Mississippi, United States on the night of April 23, 1940 that killed 209 people and severely injured many others. Hundreds of people became trapped inside the one-story steel-clad wooden building. The victims were mostly African Americans. The dance hall, which was once a church and converted blacksmith shop, was located in a one-story frame building at 1 St.

Natchez–Vidalia Bridge

The Natchez–Vidalia Bridge are two twin cantilever bridges carrying US Routes 65, 84 and 425 across the Mississippi River between Vidalia, Louisiana and Natchez, Mississippi. It is the tallest bridge in Mississippi (although the demolished Benjamin G. Humphreys Bridge connecting Mississippi with Arkansas were taller by 5 feet, its main spans were located entirely within Arkansas).
