The station is currently owned by Blakeney Communications. The station's previous call letters were WHSY as Y104 a Rock format when it was owned by Charlie Holt. The station was purchased in 1994 by Blakeney Communications. In its present form, the station signed on for the first time April 1, 1995.

WHLT is the CBS-affiliated television station for Southeastern Mississippi's Pine Belt that is licensed to Hattiesburg. It broadcasts a high definition digital signal on UHF channel 22 from a transmitter in northeastern unincorporated Forrest County. The station can also be seen on Comcast channel 10 and in high definition on digital channel 433. Owned by Media General, WHLT has studios on U.S. 49 in Hattiesburg.

Petal, Mississippi

Petal is a city in Forrest County, Mississippi, along the Leaf River. It is part of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population is approximately 10,454 per the US Census estimates performed in April, 2010. The International Checker Hall of Fame was located in Petal until September 29, 2007 when 20,000 sq. ft. of the 35,000 sq. ft. building caught fire. On June 23, 2004, Sports Illustrated entitled Petal as "Sports Illustrated Sportstown for Mississippi".
