Kaskaskia River

The Kaskaskia River is a tributary of the Mississippi River, approximately 325 miles long, in central and southern Illinois in the United States. The second largest river system within Illinois, it drains a rural area of farms, as well as rolling hills along river bottoms of hardwood forests in its lower reaches. The lower reaches of the river have been canalized to allow barge traffic.

Kaskaskia, Illinois

Kaskaskia is an historically important village in Randolph County, Illinois, United States. In the 2010 census the population was 14, making it the second-smallest incorporated community in the State of Illinois in terms of population. As a major French colonial town of the Illinois Country, in the 18th century its peak population was about 7,000, when it was a regional center.

Amoureux House

The Amoureux House, sometimes called the Beauvais-Amoureux House, is in Ste. Geneviève, Missouri. It was built in 1792 by Jean-Baptiste St. Gemme Beauvais II who moved from Kaskaskia, Illinois. In 1852, it was purchased by Benjamin C. Amoureux, who immigrated to the United States from France. It is currently operated as a museum by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. It is one of three surviving poteaux-en-terre buildings. The others are the Bequette-Ribault House and the Vital St.

Kaskaskia Bell State Memorial

The Kaskaskia Bell State Memorial is a 1948 brick building in Kaskaskia, Illinois that houses a bell cast in 1741 by King Louis XV of France as a gift to the Mission of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Kaskaskia. Known as the "Liberty Bell of the West", the bell was rung by villagers to celebrate their July 4, 1778 liberation from the British by forces of American Colonel George Rogers Clark. The Memorial also contains murals depicting Colonial scenes of Kaskaskia.
