Barton County, Missouri

Barton County is a county located in Southwest Missouri. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the population was 12,402. Its county seat is Lamar. The county was organized in 1855 and named after U.S. Senator David Barton from Missouri. President Harry S. Truman was born in Barton County in 1884. The female bandit, Little Britches, the companion in crime of Cattle Annie, was born in Barton County in 1879.

Iantha, Missouri

Iantha is an unincorporated community in Barton County, Missouri. It is located six miles west of Lamar. The community was founded in 1881. The name Iantha is of classic origin, the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. In modern times she appears in Sir William Davenant's "The Siege of Rhodes" and in Percy Bysshe Shelley's "Queen Mab". Lord Byron dedicates "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage" to Iantha (his name for Lady Charlotte Harley, daughter of the Earl of Oxford).

Boston, Missouri

Boston is an unincorporated community in southern Barton County, Missouri. It is about halfway between Lamar and Jasper. It is about one mile northeast of the intersection of U.S. Route 71 and Route 126 on county roads. It once had a post office, but mail is now delivered from Lamar.
