Firehole Ranch
Firehole Ranch is a private 640-acre guest ranch located on Hebgen Lake in Gallatin County, Montana. Owned and operated by Lynda Caine since 1999, Firehole Ranch was founded in the late 1890s as Watkins Creek Ranch by George S. Watkins. Originally much larger, Watkins Creek Ranch sold much of its land to the Madison Power and Light Company in 1904 to make way for the Hebgen Lake Dam.

1959 Yellowstone earthquake
The 1959 Yellowstone earthquake also known as the Hebgen Lake earthquake occurred on August 17, 1959 at 11:37 pm (MST) in southwestern Montana, United States. The earthquake measured 7.3 – 7.5 on the Richter magnitude scale, and caused a huge landslide that caused over 28 fatalities and left $11 million (1959 US$], $74.1 million 2006 US$) in damage. The slide blocked the flow of the Madison River resulting in the creation of Quake Lake.
