Madison Dam

Madison Dam is a hydroelectric dam in Madison County, Montana, in the southwestern part of the state. The timber-crib dam was constructed in 1906 by the forerunner of power company PPL Montana as a replacement for a similar 1901 dam and powerhouse on the same site. The dam is 35 feet high and 257 feet long at its crest, placed into the narrows of Bear Trap Canyon. As one of eight PPL Montana hydro projects, it has a generating capacity of nine megawatts in a run-of-the-river configuration.

Ennis, Montana

Ennis is a town in Madison County, Montana, United States, in the southwestern part of the state. The population was 838 at the 2010 census. The elevation of Ennis is 4,941 feet above sea level. U.S. Route 287 runs through town, following the Madison River as it descends from West Yellowstone. Just downstream from town is Ennis Lake, formed by the Madison Dam.

Norris, Montana

Norris is a small unincorporated community in northeastern Madison County, Montana, United States, at the intersection of U.S. Route 287 and Montana Highway 84. The location is a hilly, relatively arid area used for farming and ranching; the Tobacco Root Mountains form a visual backdrop to the west. Several mining districts were located in the area in the 1860s, though their success was generally brief. A now-abandoned branchline of the former Northern Pacific Railway once terminated at Norris.

Moonlight Basin

Moonlight Basin is a ski resort in southwestern Montana, located in the Madison Range of the Rocky Mountains near the resort village of Big Sky. Today, it is connected through a chairlift to the ski resort of Big Sky. The resort's land was purchased in 1992 from Big Sky Lumber Company and began as Moonlight Basin Ranch, a real estate development on the north edge of the adjacent Big Sky Resort.
